The slowly forming dark clouds and pitter-patter drops of water can make you feel like “Ah! This is a big relief from the scorching and sweltering heat.” As in this weather, sometimes, you might feel like enjoying a cup of tea and some “pakodas” with your partner, while sometimes you might feel like stepping out to get wet like a rat. But how will you enjoy the monsoon while you’re pregnant and caring for yourself and the baby inside you?
Don’t worry! Here are a few health tips for monsoon care during pregnancy:
Drink Enough Water
The temperatures may drop in this rainy season, but the humidity is still high. Dehydration during monsoon can give you a headache and can make you feel nauseous as well as giddy. Your surroundings may be soaked in the rain, but it is absolutely essential for you to stay hydrated. Also, make sure that you drink lukewarm water and add coconut water to your regular fluid intake. Home-made lemonade and smoothies can also do wonders for you.
Keep Your Diet in Balance
During monsoons, the general immunity of your body tends to be low. Moreover, with monsoon comes many diseases. So, when you have food, ensure that your food is high in protein and lukewarm. Sipping into a warm bowl of soup is healthy for you too. You can also add green leafy veggies to your meals or snacks. Green veggies are a good source of iron and folate.
Keep Your Hygiene on Track
Out of the many things to take care of during pregnancy in the rain, keeping hygiene factors in mind is necessary. Wash your hands properly to keep water-borne diseases like malaria and typhoid at bay. Take notice of vaginal hygiene. Wash the undergarments daily. Change them at least twice a day. In addition to this, wash the bedding and upholsteries once a week or month.
Wear the Right Footwear
Brisk walking during pregnancy is beneficial both for you and the life you’re nurturing inside you. However, in this weather, if you wish to walk in the rain with your partner and feel nostalgic about your pre-pregnancy days, wear covered shoes with a tight grip. You can also wear sneakers so that you don’t slip and fall.
Make Comfortable Dressing Choices
Since the humidity is high, and body temperature is also high (the blood volume increases by 50% by the 34th week), wear those clothes in which you will be able to breathe easily. Make cotton clothes your best friend, as they will not absorb heat and keep skin rashes away.
Everybody waits with a baited heart to welcome rain and enjoy it to the fullest, after the tremendous heat. With pregnancy, enjoying the monsoon may be difficult, but it is not impossible. Just keep the above health tips in mind and enjoy the rain during pregnancy.
